UPDATED: Oh, Don’t Forget… – OS X Dashboard Widget

July 1st, 2008  |  Published in News, Oh Don't Forget, Programming  |  4 Comments

I’ve been working the week or so on a Dashboard Widget for SMS reminder site Oh, Don’t Forget….  The process has been strenuous and tiring, but it finally works.  I want to thank Jason Stirman for providing me with an API key to use for this widget.  The widget sends an XML RPC request to ODF’s servers and then tells you whether or not it worked.

This widget is released free of charge.  You may change, edit, or modify the source code however you like, as long as you credit me as the original author.

Changes since v1.0

  • Redesigned interface that comes as a result of work with Jason Stirman, founder of Oh, Don’t Forget… and Mobaganda
  • Ability to clear individual fields with single click
  • Time Zone is automatically determined

Gordon – this looks great! I haven’t used this website service yet but I’ll give your widget a shot. I’m developing exclusively on OSX at my new job so this should be fun. I’m glad you got some experience implementing an API like that, that’s very cool stuff. How did you find coding the widget? Is it done in Objective C? I haven’t played with that SDK since it first came out a few years back. Enjoy your time in Cape May!

Hey, I love the widget! thank you so much for creating it, it will make my organizing tasks soooo much easier. I was wondering if you think it would be possible to integrate it with address book contact cards, that would be incredibly useful in a future addition, though I suppose it would probably require a lot more coding.

    Thanks!

    Hey there,

I love your widget – and I use it ALL the time. I’m horrible at remembering things, but since I always have my phone, ODF was a perfect solution. Add to that the fact that I carry my MBP almost all day long at work, and your widget was a no brainer.

I do have one request, though… every time I open my dashboard the widget flips over to remind me to register my number on ODF. Though it’s not a long pause, it gets slowly more irritating the more often in a day I need to use the widget. Is there a way to turn this off, or could that feature be implemented in a future version?

Thanks! Either way, I love it, and use it all the time.

Awesome ODF widget! I use this ALL the time and didn’t realize you created it until recently. Thanks for the simplicity of the widget…it’s made my life unbelievably organized.

    Cheers!
